Imagen promocional del Sky Masters
Este es el comentario de Jim Warden, el propietario del original, acerca de cómo lo consiguió: (para la traducción, deberéis esperar al tomo)
"I purchased the Skymasters piece directly from Roz
Kirby (Jack Kirby's widow) a few years ago. After
Jack Kirby passed away, Roz sold artwork directly from
their house to collectors who got in touch with them
through Mike Thibedeaux. I was able to visit along
with a couple of friends who had much larger wallets
than mine! It was interesting that my friends were
looking to buy Marvel and DC artwork, but the piece
that caught my eye was the Skymasters promo which was
framed up on a wall. Since it did not contain a major
costumed character, I was able to buy it (frame and
all) for a reasonable price. Roz said that piece was
a favorite of hers (which was why it was framed up)
and that made me feel even better about buying it.
When I returned home with th piece it remained in the
frame for several years and I only removed it to scan
the image (as I had bought it before the internet was
popular and scanning and posting images was common).
When I took the piece out of the frame I noticed that
there was a masking tape border along the bottom edge
where the matte was cut. Like yourself, I was curious
what was underneath the tape and I tried removing it.
Well, the tape was over 40 years old and it started
tearing; I was afraid that I might damage the original
artwork underneath the tape so I did not try to remove
any more of it. I placed the original back in the
frame and figured I would eventually take it to an art
restorer where I could get the tape removed
professionally. Unfortunately I have not had the time
to do so yet... maybe when I retire from my full-time
job! :)
That is probably much more information that you were
looking for, but it is the history of the piece!"
